This was a British Indian Army cantonment region, situated in the capital district of Uttarakhand State, India. The cantonment of British army was constituted in the year 1866 by Colonel Hume of the 55th regiment. In the past times, the destination was famous by the name of Jaunsar Bawan. It is a beautiful hilly destination, about 100 meters North West side of Dehradun city. The area comprises of two magnificent hills, Chakrata and Kilani. It was projected in 2001 census that the total population of the region is around 3497.

Chakrata is around 98 kilo meters away from the capital city Dehradun of Uttarakhand. The region is perched at a height of about 7000 ft above the sea level.
