Patal Bhuvaneshwar is one such place that you should not miss to make a visit to as it is one of the most holistic places of Uttarakhand. It is a limestone cave 14 km from Gangolihat in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand state in India.

It is located in the village Bhuvaneshwar and is a lot famous for its legends and folklores. Settled in the lofty peaks of the western Himalayan Range it is the most fascinating spot worth witnessing from the naked eyes. It has said that the darshan at this temple yields a thousand times the fruit of tapasya at some of the most renowned holy places like Kashi, Baidyanath or Kedarnath. The cave is 160 m long and 90 feet deep from the point of its entrance. The most awe inspiring feature of this temple are the limestone rock formations that have created various spectacular stalacitite and stalagmite figures of various hue and forms. Do not miss to catch a close view of these formations as they will truly inspire you. The cave has a narrow tunnel like opening which will lead you to a number of other caves.

There is a folklore attached to this cave that the Pandavas use to pass their time in this cave during the time of their banishment. Each and every stone, stalagmites magnificently reveal the story of the Hindu pantheon in the shapes of Gods, Goddesses, saints and mythological characters.
